Want to know if your gamified campaign is really working? Start by tracking the right KPIs.
Metrics like participation rate, lead capture, click-through rate and ROI donât just look good on a dashboard. They tell the story behind your campaign:
- Is your game engaging enough to grab attention?
- Are people willing to share their details in exchange for a prize?
- Do they click through to your site and actually convert?
Each number is a piece of the puzzle. Put them together and youâll see how your campaign is performing, how your audience is responding and what to improve next time.
The 12 KPIs to Track
- Participation rate: how many people play compared with total visitors. It shows how attractive and accessible your campaign is.
- Conversion rate: the percentage of people who complete a desired action, such as signing up, claiming a reward or buying. It measures how well your game drives real business results.
- Lead capture rate: the number of new leads generated by the campaign (email, phone, preferences and so on). Useful for list building, CRM enrichment and segmentation.
- Engagement time: how long people spend with your campaign or on your site. More time usually means stronger engagement with your brand.
- Repeat participation: how many people come back to play again, especially in multi-day campaigns like calendars. A sign of strong incentives and lasting interest.
- Click-through rate (CTR): the percentage of people who click a follow-up call to action, like a product link, âshop nowâ button or newsletter sign-up. It shows how well you guide people to the next step.
- Prize claim rate: the percentage of winners who claim their reward. It tells you whether your prizes are motivating and valuable.
- Bounce rate: how many people leave without taking action. A high bounce rate can point to a confusing experience or a weak incentive.
- Social shares and referrals: how often people share or recommend your campaign. Great for measuring organic reach.
- Zero-party data collected: information people give you directly, like preferences, quiz answers or buying intent. Extremely valuable for personalisation and future targeting.
- Cost per lead (CPL): total campaign cost divided by the number of leads collected. It helps you judge whether the campaign was worth the spend.
- ROI and campaign revenue: revenue directly attributed to the campaign or the purchases that follow. The ultimate metric if your goal is sales.
Match Your KPIs to Your Goal
You donât need to report on all 12 every time. Pick one primary KPI that matches your main goal, and two or three supporting ones:
- Lead generation: lead capture rate, conversion rate and cost per lead.
- Brand engagement: participation rate, engagement time and repeat participation.
- Data enrichment: zero-party data collected and lead capture rate.
- Sales: click-through rate, prize claim rate and ROI.
Decide this before launch. It shapes everything from the format you pick to the fields in your sign-up form. If youâre collecting data, make sure people get something in return. Our article on how gamification turns data collection into a win-win explains how.
Track Them All in Scratcher
All of these can be tracked directly in Scratcherâs analytics. You can also set up custom data points to measure exactly what matters to you.
For example: if you use a Product Finder to learn about your audienceâs preferences, you can create one data point per answer, such as âInterested in eco-friendly productsâ or âPrefers quick mealsâ. Then build segments based on those answers and send personalised emails that match each groupâs interests. Read more about data enrichment with Scratcher.
