Turn on two-factor authentication

Protect your login with a code from an authenticator app, and keep your recovery codes safe.

Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds a second step to your login: after your password, you enter a code from an app on your phone. Even if someone gets your password, they can't log in without your phone.

Turn it on

  1. Install an authenticator app on your phone, such as Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator or another app that supports codes.
  2. In Scratcher, go to Settings > Security.
  3. Under Two-factor authentication, click Enable and confirm your password.
  4. Scan the QR code with the app. If you can't scan it, type the Setup key into the app.
  5. Copy the recovery codes and keep them somewhere safe, such as a password manager.

From now on, Scratcher asks for a code from the app each time you log in. 2FA also applies when you log in with Google, Microsoft or LinkedIn.

Lost your phone?

On the login page, click Use a recovery code and enter one of your recovery codes. Each code works once. Then turn 2FA off and on again with your new phone.

Manage 2FA

On the Security page you can Show recovery codes, Regenerate recovery codes (the old ones stop working) or Disable two-factor authentication.

When you log in, type the code from the app under Authentication code. If you switched to a recovery code, click Use an authentication code to go back. The setup screen shows the Setup key: next to the QR code.
