The editor checks your campaign while you work. When something is missing or set up wrong, it tells you right away, so you can fix it before players see it.
Find and fix errors
- Look at the top bar of the editor. When the campaign has errors or warnings, an error icon with a number appears. A red icon means at least one error, an orange icon means warnings only. Hover over it to see, for example, "This campaign has 1 error and 2 warnings".
- Click the icon. Editor errors & warnings opens with a list of everything that was found, errors first.
- Click a line. The editor opens the element and the setting that needs fixing.
- Fix the setting. The line disappears from the list as soon as the problem is gone. When there is nothing left, the icon disappears.
Each line shows the name of the element and the message.
You can also ask Rex: "Are there any errors in my campaign?" Rex lists them and can take you to each one.
Errors and warnings
- Errors (red) must be fixed before you can publish, update, reactivate or continue the campaign. If you try, Fix these before you can publish opens and lists them, for example "1 error must be resolved before this campaign can go live." In the publish panel, a red icon says "This campaign has errors that must be fixed first".
- Warnings (orange) don't stop you, but something will probably not work as you expect. Check them before you go live.
Below, the messages are grouped by what they are about. "Error" or "Warning" tells you which kind each one is.
Games: how the game starts
"The game does not have a Start Game element. Without a Start Game element, the game cannot be played." (Error)
Many games start when the player clicks a button on the same page. That button is missing or was deleted. Fix: add a Button to the game page and set its click action to Play. See Buttons and click actions.
Games: prizes
"Not all prizes on the game are being used." (Error)
The game has prizes that aren't placed anywhere in the game, for example a prize that no wheel slice, card or icon uses. Players can never win it. Fix: assign the prize to a slice, card, side or icon, or remove the prize from the game.
"The selected prize does not exist." (Warning)
A slice, card, side or icon points to a prize that has been deleted. On a wheel, this also shows when a slice uses Try again but the try again option is turned off. Fix: choose another prize for that item.
"All slices are set to use "Try Again" as prize. The game requires at least 1 slice with a prize." (Error, Spin the Wheel)
Fix: give at least one slice a prize. See Spin the wheel: slices, design and settings.
Read more about prizes in Add a prize.
Games: too few items
- "The game requires at least :amount cards to function properly." (Error, Spin). The message shows how many you need.
- "The game requires at least :amount icons to function properly." (Error, Scratchcard and Slot Machine). The game needs enough different icons to make winning and losing combinations.
- "The game requires at least 1 item to function properly." (Error, Catch Objects (Drop), Hit the Target and Smash It)
- "The game requires at least 1 item path to function properly." (Error, Hit the Target). The targets need at least one path to move along.
Fix: add more cards, icons, items or paths in the game's Content tab.
Games: missing images
These are warnings. The game still works, but shows an empty spot where the image should be. Fix: upload the image in the game's Content tab, or turn off the image option.
- "The wheel is set to use "Use image", but no image is selected." (Spin the Wheel)
- "The card requires an image." (Spin and Dice Roll). On a dice, this shows when a side is set to use an image but has none.
- "The card is missing an image." (Memory Match)
- "The card is missing a "Card image"." (Scratchcard)
- "The scratchcard does not have a Coin image." (Scratchcard)
- "The icon requires an image." (Scratchcard and Slot Machine)
- "The items requires an image." (Catch Objects (Drop)) and "The item requires an image." (Hit the Target and Smash It)
- "The game does not have a Basket image." (Catch Objects (Drop))
- "The game does not have a Cursor image." (Hit the Target)
- "The game does not have a Platform image." (Smash It)
- "The game does not have a Puzzle image." (Puzzle)
- "The game is missing an image." (Tap It)
- "The mystery box requires an image." (Mystery Box)
Two image problems on the wheel are errors:
- "The wheels Spin object is set to "Center image", but no image is selected." (Error). The wheel is set to spin a center image (for example a bottle), but there is none. Fix: upload a center image, or let the wheel itself spin.
- "The wheels Tab is set to use "Use image", but no image is selected." (Error). Fix: upload an image for the tab (the pointer), or turn off Use image for it.
Buttons and images: click actions
These warnings show on buttons and images, also in emails. They are not shown for buttons on a page with a game.
- "Action navigation is set to "Go to page", but no page is selected." Fix: choose a Page.
- "Action navigation is set to "Go to page", but the selected page does not exist." The page was deleted. Fix: choose another page.
- "Action navigation is set to "Link", but the link URL is invalid." Fix: enter a full web address, such as https://www.example.com. A dynamic tag is also accepted.
- "Action navigation is set to "Download file", but the file URL is invalid." Fix: enter the full web address of the file.
- "Action navigation is set to "Share", but the share URL is invalid." Fix: enter a full web address, or turn off your own share URL.
See Buttons and click actions.
Popups
"At least one trigger must be selected if the teaser is disabled." (Error)
Without a teaser and without a trigger, the popup would never open. Fix: turn on a trigger in Display, such as Show after delay, Exit-intent or Scroll, or turn on the teaser. See Show a campaign as a popup.
"The teaser's action overrides any buttons added as child elements. Set the action to "None" to enable buttons." (Warning)
The teaser opens the popup or a link when clicked, so buttons inside it don't work. Fix: set the teaser's Action to None if you want buttons in it, or remove the buttons.
"The action is invalid. You must have pages to show the popup." (Warning)
The teaser is set to show the popup, but the popup has no pages. Fix: add a page under Flow. See Design a popup and its teaser.
Prediction games and leaderboards
- "The participation deadline must be set" (Error). Fix: set the deadline in the game's settings.
- "The participation deadline must be set on all matches" (Error). You chose a deadline per match, and a match has none. Fix: set a deadline on every match.
- "You must set a page to show when past deadline" (Error). Fix: choose the page players see after the deadline.
- "No source games selected" (Error, Leaderboard). Fix: in the leaderboard's settings, choose which games it takes its scores from.
See Leaderboards and score predictions.
Interactive graphic
- "Map item does not have a Click Action" (Warning). A clickable area goes nowhere. Fix: choose a page or a link for it.
- "Map item schedule does not have a valid date" (Warning). Fix: set the date.
- "Map item schedule "to" date can not be earlier than the "from" date" (Warning)
- "Map item schedule "to" day and hour can not be earlier than the "from" day and hour" (Warning)
See Interactive graphics with clickable hotspots.
Gallery and file upload
- "Gallery does not have a valid voting start date" and "Gallery does not have a valid voting end date" (Warnings)
- "Gallery voting end, is before voting start" (Warning)
- "Gallery does not have a valid submission start date" and "Gallery does not have a valid submission end date" (Warnings)
- "Gallery submission end, is before submission start" (Warning)
- "No Gallery element selected or the selected Gallery does not exist." (Error). The upload field must be linked to a gallery. Fix: choose the gallery in the upload element's settings.
Fix the dates in the gallery's general settings.
Messages when you publish
These come from the publish panel, not from the errors list:
- "We found some warnings on your campaign:" followed by, for example, "You have inactive emails in this campaign. Make sure to enable the emails you want to be sent." You can still publish. Open Connect > Emails and click Activate email on the emails that should be sent.
- "You have reached the maximum number of active campaigns for your current plan." End a campaign you no longer need, or upgrade.
- "We couldn't confirm your campaign was published — check your connection and try again. Nothing was lost." The connection dropped while publishing. Try again.
- A missing Start date or End date, or an end date before the start date, is marked on the date fields.
See Publish, schedule, pause and end a campaign.
Check the whole setup
The errors list looks at the content of your pages. The campaign health check goes further and tests your live website, embed script, integrations, webhooks, prizes, emails and consent. See Run a campaign health check.
