With double opt-in, new sign-ups get an email with a link to confirm their address. It proves that the address is real and belongs to the person who signed up. In some countries, such as Germany, it is the expected way to collect newsletter consent.
Double opt-in uses the email module, so your plan needs to include it, or you need the Email module add-on.
Set it up
You need two things: the double opt-in add-on on the form, and the confirmation email.
1. Turn on double opt-in on the form
- Click the form and open Form add-ons at the bottom of the Content tab.
- Turn on Double opt-in and open its settings.
- Under Type, choose what people see when they click the link: Text shows a Confirmation text (for example "Your email has been confirmed."), and Redirect sends them to a Redirect URL, such as a page on your website.
- Optional: under Only when (any of) permissions checked, choose the consent checkboxes that should trigger the email. People who don't tick them won't get it.
2. Create the confirmation email
- Go to Connect > Emails and click Add email.
- Choose the Double opt-in template. It contains the confirmation button.
- Write the text and subject, and click Activate email.
You can also add a Double opt-in confirm email that is sent after people have confirmed, for example a welcome email with a discount.
Good to know
- The confirmation email is only sent the first time an email address signs up in your account. Someone who is already a lead from an earlier campaign won't get it again.
- People who don't confirm are still saved as leads. The confirmation date is in the export, in the column Double Opt-In Confirmation Date, and the dashboard shows Confirmed leads.
- If you send leads to your email tool, check how the tool handles subscribers. Many email tools can run their own double opt-in.
