Form field types, settings and styling

Every field type and its settings: phone countries, date format and minimum age, dropdown options and mapping, passwords, captcha, labels, error messages and field styling.

This article covers every setting of a form field: the field itself, its texts on the page and its styling. For the form's extra features, see Every form add-on.

Create a new field

  1. Click the form. On the Content tab, under Fields, click Add field.
  2. Open the list and choose Create new field.
  3. Under Type, choose the field type (Select type). You can't change the type after saving.
  4. Write the Field name. It is the name you see on the Leads page and in exports.
  5. Turn on Required if people must fill it in.
  6. Fill in the settings for the type (below), and click Save.

The new field is added to the form and saved under My fields, so you can reuse it in other campaigns. Two of your fields can't have the same name.

Edit an existing field

Click the field in the form, and on the Content tab under Settings, click Edit. You can also click the field in the list under Fields on the form. The panel is called Update followed by the field's name.

  • The Field name and the choices of a dropdown or radio button belong to your account. If you change them, the change applies to every campaign that uses the field.
  • Required and the other settings in the panel apply to this campaign.
  • Ready-made system fields such as Email can't be renamed.

To remove a field from the form, click the three dots next to it under Fields (Actions) and choose Delete, then confirm with Remove field. The field stays in your account and in the leads you already collected.

Field types

Text

A normal text field for names, addresses, member numbers and so on. No extra settings.

Email

People must type a correctly written email address, or they see the field's error message. No extra settings.

Phone

Players choose their country code and type the number. The number is checked against the chosen country.

  • Default country: the country code that is selected when the form opens. New phone fields start with the campaign's country.
  • Show specific countries (optional): only these countries can be chosen. Leave it empty to show all countries.

Select (dropdown)

A dropdown list.

  • Options: write each choice. Click Add option (or press Enter) to add one, and the bin icon to remove one. Empty options are removed when you save.
  • Allow multiple selections: people can pick more than one choice.
  • Sort options alphabetically: show the choices in alphabetical order.
  • Allow mapping: only when you edit a dropdown that already exists. Choose another dropdown under Select field, and decide which choices belong to each of its choices. For example, a "Store" dropdown that only shows the stores in the city picked in a "City" dropdown. Click Add option next to a parent choice to add a choice under it, and drag choices between groups. Choices not linked to anything are shown under Unassigned.

Only the choices you set up are accepted.

Radio button

Round buttons where people pick one choice. Set the choices under Options with Add option, like a dropdown.

Checkbox

A single tick box that is saved as a field, for example "I am already a member". For marketing consent and terms, use the consent checkboxes instead: they store the exact text people accepted. See Ask for consent and add terms and conditions.

Hidden

Not shown to players. It saves a Default value you choose, or a value from the campaign link. Hidden fields have no Required switch. See Hidden fields, prefilled forms and the unique field.

Password

For campaigns where people log in and come back.

  • Require password confirmation: people type the password twice. Write the text above the second field under Password confirmation label.
  • Delete password after sending to integration: the password is removed from Scratcher once it has been sent to your integration.
  • Password regex: a rule the password must follow, for example a minimum length or a number. Leave it empty to accept any password.

Passwords are never remembered on the player's device.

Date

A date picker, for example for a birthday.

  • Date format: DD-MM-YYYY, MM-DD-YYYY or YYYY-MM-DD.
  • Enable minimum age: people younger than the Minimum age can't take part. It starts at 18 when you turn it on. Useful for competitions with an age limit, for example with alcohol or gambling.

System fields

Under System fields you find ready-made fields: First name, Last name, Email, Phone number, Country, Postal code, City, State, Birthday, Age, Gender, Password, Custom Token, Created at and Source. They work like your own fields, and many integrations know them, so they are sent to the right place in your email tool automatically.

Texts on the page

Click a field in the form. On the Content tab:

  • Label: the text above the field. Use the switch to hide it and show only the placeholder.
  • Placeholder: the grey example text inside the field.
  • Error message: what people see if the field is empty or wrong. While you edit it, the error is shown in the editor, so you can see and style it.

With the Adressevælger autocompletion add-on, text fields also have Adressevælger mapping. See Every form add-on.

Field styling

The Styles tab of a field styles every field in the form at once, so the form always looks consistent:

  • Font: font and size for the label, the text, the placeholder and the error.
  • Border: style, width and color.
  • Colors: Label, Field (background), Text, Placeholder and Error.
  • Size: the width of the fields and their height and padding.
  • Shape: rounded or square corners.
  • Text alignment: left, center or right.

Captcha field

When the Captcha add-on is on, a captcha field is added at the bottom of the form. Click it to choose:

  • Theme: Light or Dark.
  • Size: Normal or Compact.

Form add-ons at a glance

The form has these add-ons: Captcha, Autosave form fields, Double opt-in, Adressevælger autocompletion, Popup confirmation, Require form before, Show popup on error, Custom unique field, Multi-step form and Custom submit action. Read what each one does in Every form add-on.
