With the ActiveCampaign integration, everyone who signs up is created or updated as a contact in ActiveCampaign, subscribed to the list you choose, and given the tags you set.
What you need
- An ActiveCampaign account.
- An ActiveCampaign user who can see the developer settings. The API key belongs to that user and has the same rights, so the user must be allowed to manage contacts, lists and tags. An admin user is the easiest.
Step 1: Find your API URL and key in ActiveCampaign
- Log in to ActiveCampaign.
- Go to Settings (bottom left) > Developer.
- Under API Access, copy the URL (it looks like
https://youraccount.api-us1.com). - Copy the Key too.
Step 2: Connect ActiveCampaign to Scratcher
- In Scratcher, go to Settings > Integrations and click ActiveCampaign.
- Paste the URL in Api url and the key in Api Key.
- Click Install integration. Scratcher checks the details by reading the user the key belongs to.
Step 3: Turn it on in a campaign
- In the editor, go to Connect > Integrations > ActiveCampaign and click Activate.
- If you have connected more than one account, choose it under Select account.
- Under External list, choose the ActiveCampaign list.
- Under Field mappings, match your extra fields to ActiveCampaign custom fields.
- Under Tags, type the tags to add, separated by commas, for example "summer-competition, scratcher".
- Under Filter by permissions (optional), choose your marketing consent checkbox.
- Click Save, and then Test.
Field mapping
- Email, phone, first name and last name are filled in automatically from your form's standard fields. You don't need to map them.
- Use the mappings for ActiveCampaign custom fields. The Destination field list shows all your custom fields.
Tags
The screen says "Enter the tags below you want to apply. You can apply multiple by separating them by a comma. Make sure these tags already exist in ActiveCampaign." If a tag is missing, Scratcher creates it as a contact tag, but it's a good idea to create the tags in ActiveCampaign first, so the names are exactly right. Tags make it easy to start an automation for people from a campaign.
Consent
Contacts are added to the list with the status active (subscribed). Choose your marketing checkbox under Filter by permissions (optional), so only people who said yes are added.
What is sent and when
New sign-ups are sent within a minute or two. When you activate the integration, the campaign's existing leads are sent too. When someone takes part again, their contact is updated.
Troubleshooting
Failed deliveries show under Settings > Integrations > Delivery status.
- "The API key used is invalid or does not have the correct permissions.": the key was reset, or the user it belongs to lost rights. Copy the key again and connect it with Add new account.
- "Active Campaign failed to accept the request.": ActiveCampaign was busy or down. Resend the lead later.
- "The ActiveCampaign API url must be a public HTTP(S) address.": the Api url is wrong. Copy it again from Settings > Developer.
