You connect Scratcher to ActiveTrail through Zapier. A Zap takes every new lead from your Scratcher campaign and creates or updates a contact in ActiveTrail, in the group you choose.
What you need
- A Zapier account. The free plan works for a simple Zap; a consent filter step needs a paid Zapier plan.
- An ActiveTrail account, and a user who can create API access tokens (usually the account owner or an admin).
- A Scratcher plan with integrations, and a campaign with at least one lead to test with.
Step 1: Create an access token in ActiveTrail
- In ActiveTrail, go to the settings and open the API apps (API access) page.
- Create a new app or token and name it, for example "Zapier".
- Don't limit the token to certain IP addresses: Zapier sends from changing addresses.
- Set an expiry date far enough ahead, or none, so the Zap doesn't stop.
- Copy the token.
Step 2: Connect Scratcher to Zapier
If you haven't done it yet, follow Connect 8,000+ apps with Zapier: in Scratcher go to Settings > Integrations > Zapier and click Set up on Zapier.
Step 3: Set up the trigger
- In Zapier, click Create and choose Zaps.
- As the trigger, choose Scratcher and the trigger for new leads.
- Connect your Scratcher account, choose the campaign and click Test trigger.
Step 4: Add the ActiveTrail action
- Add the action step and choose ActiveTrail.
- As the action event, choose the one that creates or updates a contact (or adds a contact to a group).
- Connect your account: paste the access token from step 1.
- Choose the group the contacts should go into.
Step 5: Map the fields
- Email: the lead's email.
- First name and Last name: your form fields.
- SMS or phone: the phone number, with country code.
- Extra fields: map them to ActiveTrail's custom fields, which must exist in ActiveTrail first.
Step 6: Test and publish
- Click Test step, and check the contact in ActiveTrail. Delete it afterwards.
- Click Publish to turn the Zap on.
Only send people who said yes
Add a Filter by Zapier step after the trigger, choose your marketing permission from Scratcher and set it to "(Boolean) Is true". See Consent and permissions.
Troubleshooting
- Look at the Zap history in Zapier for each run and ActiveTrail's error message.
- "Unauthorized": the token expired, was deleted, or is limited to certain IP addresses. Create a new token and reconnect the account in Zapier.
- The contact isn't added to the group: the contact unsubscribed earlier in ActiveTrail.
