Connect Campaign Monitor with Zapier

Add new sign-ups from Scratcher as subscribers to a Campaign Monitor list with a Zap, including custom fields and consent to track.

You connect Scratcher to Campaign Monitor through Zapier. A Zap takes every new lead from your Scratcher campaign and adds them as a subscriber to a Campaign Monitor list, or updates them if they are already on it.

What you need

  • A Zapier account. The free plan works for a simple Zap; a consent filter step needs a paid Zapier plan.
  • A Campaign Monitor login that is an Administrator, or a user with permission to manage lists and subscribers for the client you use.
  • The list in Campaign Monitor, with custom fields for the extra data you want (in the list, under Custom fields).
  • A Scratcher plan with integrations, and a campaign with at least one lead to test with.

Step 1: Connect Scratcher to Zapier

If you haven't done it yet, follow Connect 8,000+ apps with Zapier: in Scratcher go to Settings > Integrations > Zapier and click Set up on Zapier.

Step 2: Set up the trigger

  1. In Zapier, click Create and choose Zaps.
  2. As the trigger, choose Scratcher and the trigger for new leads.
  3. Connect your Scratcher account, choose the campaign and click Test trigger.

Step 3: Add the Campaign Monitor action

  1. Add the action step and choose Campaign Monitor.
  2. As the action event, choose the one that adds (or updates) a subscriber.
  3. Connect your account: log in to Campaign Monitor and allow Zapier access.
  4. Choose the client (if you have several) and the list.

Step 4: Map the fields

  • Email: the lead's email.
  • Name: the first name, or first and last name together.
  • Mobile number: the phone number, with + and country code.
  • Consent to track: choose Yes only for people who gave consent, otherwise Unchanged or No. This decides whether Campaign Monitor may track opens and clicks for the person.
  • Your custom fields: they appear under the standard fields once the list is chosen.
  • Resubscribe: leave it off, so people who unsubscribed earlier aren't added again.

Step 5: Test and publish

  1. Click Test step. Zapier adds the test subscriber.
  2. Check the list in Campaign Monitor, and delete the test subscriber.
  3. Click Publish to turn the Zap on.

Only send people who said yes

Campaign Monitor adds everyone you send as an active subscriber. Add a Filter by Zapier step after the trigger, choose your marketing permission from Scratcher and set it to "(Boolean) Is true". See Consent and permissions.

Troubleshooting

  • Look at the Zap history in Zapier for each run and Campaign Monitor's error message.
  • A custom field is missing: create it in Campaign Monitor, then click Refresh fields in the Zap.
  • The subscriber isn't added: the email is on the suppression list or unsubscribed in Campaign Monitor.
  • Subscribers arrive late: Zapier checks for new leads at intervals that depend on your Zapier plan.
