With the Emarsys integration, everyone who signs up is created or updated as a contact in Emarsys and added to the contact list you choose.
What you need
- An Emarsys account, and a user who can manage API credentials (under Management > Security Settings).
Step 1: Create API credentials in Emarsys
- In Emarsys, go to Management > Security Settings > API Credentials.
- Click Create API Credentials, and make sure to select OpenID Connect.
- Under Permissions, turn on these four:
contact.create,contact.update,contactlist.listandfield.list. - Save, and copy the Client ID and the Client Secret. You need both in Scratcher.
Permissions the credentials need
contact.createandcontact.update: to create new contacts and update existing ones.contactlist.list: to show your contact lists in the campaign.field.list: to show your Emarsys fields in the field mapping.
No other permissions are needed.
Step 2: Connect Emarsys to Scratcher
- In Scratcher, go to Settings > Integrations and click Emarsys. The Setup guide in the dialog repeats the steps above.
- Paste the Client ID and Client secret.
- Click Install integration. Scratcher checks that it can read your contact lists.
Step 3: Turn it on in a campaign
- In the editor, go to Connect > Integrations > Emarsys and click Activate.
- If you have connected more than one account, choose it under Select account.
- Under External list, choose the contact list.
- Under Field mappings, map at least "Lead - Email" to the Emarsys Email field, and then your other fields, for example First Name and Last Name. Emarsys fields are listed by name.
- Under Filter by permissions (optional), choose your marketing consent checkbox.
- Click Save, and then Test.
Field mapping
- Map the email address yourself. Emarsys uses it to find existing contacts, so a contact without it can't be matched.
- Only the fields you map are sent.
- Some Emarsys system fields, such as opt-in, registration date and newsletter, aren't offered, because Emarsys sets them itself.
Consent
Scratcher sets the contact's opt-in field in Emarsys to "true" for everyone it sends. So always use Filter by permissions (optional) with your marketing consent checkbox, if it's optional on your form.
What is sent and when
New sign-ups are sent within a minute or two, and the campaign's existing leads are sent when you activate it. If the contact already exists, it is updated and added to the list.
Troubleshooting
- "All or some of the fields are invalid..." when installing: the client ID or secret is wrong, or the credentials don't use OpenID Connect.
- Deliveries fail, or the list or field dropdowns are empty: the credentials are missing one of the four permissions. Edit them in Emarsys.
- Contacts are created twice: "Lead - Email" isn't mapped to the Email field.
