With the Mapp integration, everyone who signs up is created or updated as a contact in Mapp Engage and added to the group (list) you choose.
What you need
- A Mapp Engage account, and a user who can create system users (usually an administrator).
- Your Mapp Engage API address. It is the address of your Mapp Engage system with the API path, and you find it in Mapp's API documentation for your system, or by asking Mapp support.
Step 1: Create an API user in Mapp Engage
Mapp Engage uses a separate user for the API, with a username and password.
- In Mapp Engage, go to Administration > System Users.
- Create a new system user and name it for example "Scratcher".
- Give the user the API role (API access), with the rights below.
- Set a strong password and save. Copy the username and the password.
Rights the API user needs
Scratcher uses the user to:
- read your groups, so you can choose one in the campaign;
- read your contact attributes, so you can map fields to them;
- create and update contacts;
- add contacts to groups (subscribe them).
The user doesn't need access to messages, reports or anything else.
Step 2: Connect Mapp to Scratcher
- In Scratcher, go to Settings > Integrations and click Mapp.
- Paste the API address, the username and the password in the matching fields.
- Click Install integration. Scratcher checks that it can read your groups.
Step 3: Turn it on in a campaign
- In the editor, go to Connect > Integrations > Mapp and click Activate.
- If you have connected more than one account, choose it under Select account.
- Under External list, choose the Mapp group.
- Under Field mappings, click Add field mapping and match each Scratcher field to a Mapp attribute, for example "Lead - First name" to FirstName.
- Under Filter by permissions (optional), choose your marketing consent checkbox.
- Click Save, and then Test.
Field mapping
- The email address is always sent and identifies the contact. You don't need to map it.
- The Destination field list shows the standard and custom attributes in your Mapp system. Create custom attributes in Mapp first.
- For mobile numbers, use the Format setting. Mapp usually expects + and country code.
Consent
Contacts are subscribed to the group you choose. If the group uses double opt-in in Mapp, Mapp sends its own confirmation email, and people are only subscribed when they confirm. Use Filter by permissions so only people who ticked your marketing checkbox are added.
What is sent and when
New sign-ups are sent within a minute or two. When you activate the integration, the campaign's existing leads are sent too. When someone takes part again, the contact is updated. Check every delivery under Settings > Integrations > Delivery status.
Troubleshooting
- "All or some of the fields are invalid..." when installing: check the API address, and that the system user has the API role and isn't locked.
- Deliveries fail with an access error: the system user lacks one of the rights above.
- The password expired: some Mapp systems make passwords expire. Set a new password in Mapp and connect again with Add new account.
