What you can use a wheel spinner for
A spinning wheel turns a choice into a small moment everyone can watch. Because the result is random, nobody can say the choice was unfair.
- In the classroom. Put the pupils' names on the wheel to choose who answers next, or add topics, tasks or groups. Tick "Remove the winner after each spin" so everyone gets a turn before anyone is picked twice.
- Team decisions. Who presents first at the stand-up, where to go for lunch, which task to pick up next. The wheel settles it in a few seconds.
- Giveaways and live streams. Spin for a winner in front of your audience, or let the wheel choose the prize. For a long list of entries, the random winner picker is quicker and lets you draw several winners at once.
- Games and parties. Truth or dare, who chooses the music, which game to play next.
How the spin works
- Each line in the list becomes one segment, and all segments are the same size.
- When you press the button, the result is picked first with the Web Crypto random number generator built into your browser. It does not depend on how hard or when you press.
- The wheel then turns and slows down until the pointer stops on the segment that was picked. If your device is set to reduce motion, the result is shown at once.
With n options, each option has a chance of 1 in n. With 6 options, that is 1 in 6, or about 16.7%. An option that appears twice on the list gets two segments, so its chance doubles to 2 in n. You can use up to 100 options.
A prize wheel for your brand
This tool is for quick choices. If you want a wheel on your website or in your newsletter that people spin to win a prize, that is a campaign. With Scratcher's spin the wheel game, people enter their email and give consent before they spin, and you decide how many of each prize can be won. Winners can get a unique discount code for your webshop, so you can see which orders came from the wheel.
Read the spin the wheel guide for how brands use it, and see how one shop used it in BOBO's wheel of fortune campaign.
